Open preview automatically

Is it possible to open the preview automatically when I open a .md file?

@alainakafkes This is the code that actually opens the preview. If you want to get it to open automagically without having to toggle the command, you'll probably want to hook Pane::onDidChangeActiveItem.

Probably a new command since toggle will close the preview if it's already open.

Got it, thanks! How can I test this locally on the command line? package.json isn't very telling.

cd where-you-have-your-local-copy
apm install
apm link # or apm link -d
atom # or atom -d

The optional -d argument is shorthand for --dev. If you specify that when linking, then your changes will only show up when running Atom in dev mode.

Tests can be run using atom --test spec where you cloned markdown-preview.

Would someone mind examining my last commit? What I hope to be doing is using ::onDidChangeActiveItem to detect when a new markdown file is opened, and then using AddPreviewForEditor to open up the Markdown preview. I'm new to Coffeescript so I'd love feedback on where I may be going wrong.

You need to make sure that the active item is actually a Markdown file.

So I should check if isMarkdownPreviewView is False (i.e. that the text file hasn't been displayed as a Markdown preview yet), and then use onDidChangeActiveItem to call AddPreviewForEditor to display the Markdown preview?
