Support for Multiple Locales

I am aware that we can specify the preferred lang in a URL like this "?lang=de". I don't know how that really works. I think it is only for setting the locale for the contents and more importantly for the browser to use proper encodings. Is there a translation feature that make it possible to switch between two or more languages?

Contents of a site have been translated. What's the quickest way to add them to an existing site? All I can think of now is statically linking two webdocs having their contents in different languages.

Languages for the article to be created may be defined by the way of the lang query option together with the create URL. For example German = 'de' would be adjusted by https://example.com/edit/articles/create?lang=de​

The language option is added to the lang attribute of the page's HTML tag. This let’s modern browsers do a perfect language based automatic hyphenation and spell checking of the text. This is the purpose of the lang query option, nothing else nothing less. It works according to the HTML tag specification and there is no functionality beyond.

I have no plans for implementing auto-translation of texts to other languages. I am using intensively online services for machine translation, and while the translation results are quite good, and by chance we may see some perfectly translated sentences or paragraphs, the tranlsation of an article as a whole is IMHO not publication ready. For example see my German article about the climate sine translated from German to English by Microsoft's online translator:

I would not publish this in Englisg without revisiting each sentence. Instead, in case I want to translate an article to another language, I would create a new article and then paragraph-wise would copy & paste the text from the online translator to the new article, and of course check and correct the text as necessary.

Another obstacle is, that the translation services that I know, do everything to prevent users from circumventing to visit their web sites. To begin with, the access APIs are private, and the license terms do not allow direct access by other web sites. I won't open this one of Pandorra's boxes.
