integration with flatland-rl? #200

Hey David, have you come across this project, which was introduced a few years ago as an online reinforcement learning challenge at AICrowd - https://flatland.aicrowd.com/intro.html ?

It has a similar grid layout to yours, with I think a few more junction types. It was intended to reflect some network/graph aspects of real railways, and was sponsored by the Swiss railway company SBB. The project has spawned a few research papers.

Our railways are mostly randomly generated, with an algorithm which reproduces some network features of intra- and inter-city tracks.

We used to have a railway layout editor, which ran inside a Jupyter notebook, and looked quite similar to yours. (Ours used to interpolate track between mouse points ;) Sadly this is now broken...

We are lacking a web front end. Our backend is python. It would be interesting to understand a bit about your architecture and what might be involved in integrating the two...

Best wishes
Jeremy
