Manually Tag People

I am moving over from Momatu to Ente because of severe privacy concerns and the added functionality of ente. Plus I am a happy user of ente auth and am hoping to support the creators by signing up for ente photos.

There are a couple great Momatu features missing from ente. One of them is the ability to tag people.

Sometimes a face is somewhat obscured so ente does not recognize it. However, I still want the image to show up in this person's filters. So I would want to manually tag people in photos. To simplify the identification of missing people, the photo gallery should also show in the corner of a picture how many people have been tagged in the image.

Momatu has a great workflow for this - either while uploading images (easiest) or afterwards. It suggests the faces it's found (need to be assigned to people manually), but you can also tap anywhere on the picture to tag someone else as well, even if their face was not recognized.

I think Google Photos had this, and I know Adobe Lightroom does. It would be great to be able to click on someone's face, add a name, and then (not necessarily right away) find other faces that Ente thinks look similar. This would let me get my database of people back to the number I used to have on Google Photos.

Yes! This issue has frustrated me so much with anything involving "tagging" photos with people. The quality of my photos aren't always great, and having to make albums for people anyway due to the times where I get a bad shot and somebody isn't recognized really sucks.

From what I know, there isn't support yet for recognizing pets with the facial recognition feature. But, adding something like this would also help with that use-case, as I've found that with Apple Photos I tend to lose pictures of my cat easier due to the algorithms not recognizing them.

Giving us more control over these types of things makes the experience much smoother. I hope the Ente team finds it to be a worthwhile addition to their app, and props to the team for the wonderful product they've made for us all so far <3

Hey, just dropping a comment here to let you know that manual face tags are something we are working on. Pet recognition is also on the cards, but we don't have a clear time line yet since there are currently no open source models we can plug in. But we do have pets ourselves, so this will get shipped eventually.

Manually tagging people would be great! I would like to select multiple pictures and then add/remove person tags to those. However, I mainly need a feature to remove a person's tag from an image in some way.

As a minimum, when I open "Info" of the picture I'm looking at and I see tagged persons there, I would assume that I could remove wrongly tagged persons by just clicking a small x button on the corner of the person's tag circle. Would it be possible to do that before some more complex multitagging feature?

Removing person tags from a person is already possible. If you're inside the person page, you can long-press and select the images you want removed, and then press "Not person". You can also remove the tag from inside the info section of an image, by pressing on the pencil icon next to the faces, basically exactly as you described.
