I get that no matter what I try. I put the variables in the standard Docker .env file or even in an .env file where my glance.yaml file is. Nothing works. Where do I define or put these variables?

When you update the .env file you need to re-run docker compose up -d, as Docker creates an instance of each container with the initially provided variables, so you'd need to re-create the container.

Yup that's what I'm doing. I put the variables in the .env file where the compose.yaml file is also located and down then up the container. That's when I get the errors from Glance saying the environment variables not found and Glance doesn't even start.

By the sound of this, you know what you are doing. But I'm going to ask just in case you missed it, do you have this property env_file: .env inside your compose.yaml?
