Roadmap after kpt 1.0.0

We keep bumping the minor version
Changing the major version should happen only in case of big changes
A full release by the end of the year is a good plan and keep the 6 month cadence
We can have a roadmap with planned content and timelines
We might have some releases on demand
2026 Q4 roadmap
- Mutation pipeline improvements
  - Conditional execution
  - Resource conditions based on regular expressions
- Security policy and implementation of it
2027 Q2
- Let's discuss in Prague
- Loops in mutation pipelines
- IF/ELSE support
2026-09-16
- Maybe we should call this as a project plan
- We already have a GitHub Project with the roadmap items (Kpt roadmap (view))
- @ciaranjohnston will check if we can have a priority list view without a timeline
2026-09-23 - 2026-10-14
- Pending

Security policy

We have one for Porch talking about kpt
- Use the advisories instead of contacting the kpt code owners
- Change Security Response Committee to maintainers
- Change version for kpt to 1.0.0
Add one file with the content to the governance repo and refer to that from all the repos
Last release version -1
@CsatariGergely will work on this
Turn on Secret Protection in all the repos
2026-09-16:
- Adding security policy governance#13
  - Merged
  - Next step is to add SECURITY.md-s to the repos and refer to this one
2026-10-14 - 2026-10-21: Pending

Documentation

Jump directly to the documentation page of Porch from the kpt and the function-catalog documentation (@Catalin-Stratulat-Ericsson )
- PRs were done by Catalin
Phase 2 is a full integration of the Porch documentation to the renewed kpt documentation
2026-07-15: no updates
2026-07-22:
- PR-s are merged
- We should wait with the merger of the two documentation with the kpt documentation reorg
2026-08-05: No update
2026-08-12: Need to create an EPIC to capture the body of work required to complete this. @ciaranjohnston to check with @CsatariGergely
2026-08-19:
- Items of the epic
  - Debulleting
  - Restructuring, getting rid of the book structure
  - Merge the Porch documentation to the kpt documentation
  - Check if we have an issue or anything else on kpt documentation reorg
  - Apply the "Porch way" of versioning to kpt
- A: @CsatariGergely will create an epic
2026-08-26
kpt and Porch documentation reorg epic #4711
The new EPIC links and EPIC form Porch which links an EPIC kind of issue in Nephio (shouldn't we move all to one EPIC?)
- Yes! @CsatariGergely to create issues from the kpt and Porch related items in the Nephio epic
2026-09-02: no update
2026-09-09
- All issues are created
2026-09-19 - 09-23:

2026-10-14: Versioning pr was merged. Yey!
2026-10-21: Last two bulletining for Porch prs are up for review!

Clean up the kpt repo

EPIC: Clean up the kpt repo #4552
2026-07-15: 2026-07-29: needs some effort to conclude, some low-hanging fruit that can be easily dealt with
2026-08-05 - 2026-10-21: No update

ADOPTERS.md

We should look into the adopters file of Metal3
2026-08-05 - 2026-08-26: No update
2026-09-02: propose to discuss at Prague, in the meantime anyone in the community who wants to be represented on the list to get approval internally from their relevant decision-makers
2026-10-14: Nokia and Ericsson will check internally how we can add ourselves to the ADOPTERS file
2026-10-21: Nokia is okay to be in the adopters file.

CNCF Incubation

EPIC - Move kpt to incubation level in CNCF #4809

Packaging

2026-09-02: proposal for packaging updates: Improve kpt CLI distribution: homebrew-core and publish deb/rpm packages #4723 for the CLI
- apt, rpm, homebrew and arch AUR are the proposed targets, alongside binaries, source and container images
- Use the issue as the EPIC and create sub-issues for the rest
- go-releaser will build a lot of variants so we can hopefully rely on that
- homebrew requires raising a PR in an external repo - @liamfallon will drive this
- No support for Windows unless someone comes with an issue
2026-09-09
- Work on Homebrew started
2026-09-16
- Homebrew work is done!
- PR pending for rpm and deb packages
2026-09-23
- PR for rpm and deb was merged
- We need a follow up pr for homebrew
2026-10-14
- Majority was done
2026-10-21
- Done. Yey!
- We can remove the item form the agenda

Marking of pre-releases

Release config sets prerelease: true, marking all releases as pre-release #4754
Let's use v1.2.3-pre-[0-9]+
@aravindtga will update docs(versioning): define latest/stable image tags and the -pre.N pre-release convention governance#14
2026-10-14
- @CsatariGergely or @ciaranjohnston should review docs(versioning): define latest/stable image tags and the -pre.N pre-release convention governance#14
2026-10-21:
- governance/pull/14 was merged
- Done and can be removed from the agenda. Yey!

Version upgrades

We should have a policy for managing dependencies
- Supported Go version
- Support update only direct dependencies
Set dependabot rules
- Patch only minor or major versions
- Update only if there is a CVE
2026-10-21:
- @CsatariGergely will propose a pr with the policy to the governance repo

Dedicated Porch testing repo

Let's just create a porch-testing - @CsatariGergely
2026-10-21:
- Will use the porch repo for issues. @CsatariGergely will add this to the README.md
