Log into archive.org to download ROMs?

I can't download the ROMs with the "Download Missing" button as it appears they now require logging into archive.org.

If this is not possible to do (easily) it'd be nice to get have the URLs of the missing ROMs available.

That's annoying. Ample will use a username/password from keychain but it doesn't currently work with what they're doing (NSURLAuthenticationMethodServerTrust - server trust authentication). In the meantime, the list of roms is roms.plist file in the Resources directory.

I'm having the same problem. I been using old roms from an older Ample, don't remember which version, cause when ever I update ample and and redownloaded the roms, it wouldn't boot the emulated Apple IIGS. I keep a folder with the roms just for this reason. I believe getting the most up to date roms will help me with a problem I'm having in another issue with the Apple IIGS joystick emulation that I posted. Could that be true.

@ejh1965 You can do what @ksherlock suggested to get a list of what ROM .zip filename matches what emulated machine. Although it's not as necessary for the IIgs one since it is named "apple2gs.zip".

The URL to download ROMs is what you can see in the URL field in the ROMs window; as above I had to create and log into an Internet Archive account before I could actually download them. You can click the ROMs button with a folder icon in Ample's Manage ROMs window to see where you need to put the ROM once it's downloaded. Then I did have to click the Refresh button so the ROMs I downloaded no longer showed as missing.

Thanks I just created an account. I wonder if I could use the roms folder as a reference to find the rom to download or should I use the roms.plist as a reference. I guess the latter to make sure I have all the newly create ones. Thanks again. Just love what's going on in the emulator world.

Since the auth system is currently incompatible with archive.org's auth system, would it be possible for the ROMs and Missing lists to have an option to take in a base URL like it currently does, and output, say, a text file or folder of bookmarks pointing to the full URLs of the zips involved? Currently the missing list displays the long names of the missing files, but these need to be mapped to the zip names before they can be downloaded in an already authenticated browser.

Another option would be to just send each download request to the default browser instead of using the embedded system, and then move the files from the default download location to the Ample ROMs folder. This of course gets trickier, as different browsers have different ways of indicating when a download is complete. Personally, I'd be happy with a text file of URLs :)

As of a couple months/versions ago, there's a new default URL.

The old archive URL, aside from the authentication issues, hasn't been updated in 5 or 6 months so it's missing items.

The list, in property list format, is here in the Resources/roms.plist file. You can turn that into something more usable with something like

fgrep string roms.plist | awk -F '</?string>' '{if (NR % 2) {print($2)}}' | sort

These are expected to be merged, that is something like apple2e.zip has every apple2e variation in it (apple2e, apple2ee, apple2euk, apple2ese, etc). Some places have separate zip/7z files for every variant.

I just stripped all the unneeded text out the roms.plist and made my self a text file that I could use to search the archive.org list than downloaded the rom file and placed it in the rom folder. Tedious but got it done. Just was wondering how we will know when and where to download updated roms as needed especially when required with the new MAME/Ample.

So, my current solution is to download romset diffs (eg, MAME - Update ROMs (v0.276 to v0.277)) and then run https://github.com/rejetto/hfs to share the folder with myself as a web directory and pull in the missing files. Seems to me that there should be a better way to do this though -- perhaps a local proxy script that redirects to a (logged in) online URL? Haven't figured out how to actually do such a thing yet though.
