Feature: Adopt this AP

Have you considered a feature where each AP, as it goes online for the first time (after getting some kind of agent package), and announces itself to the apcontroller ?

This would save a lot of copy + pasting of config, and opens the door to further configuration and monitoring settings.

Perhaps there is a generic "Adopt this network device" in other controller-type software you might leverage ?

This requires installing something on the AP, which wasn't the design intent. Without any "agent" on the AP, there's no way to detect what the actual AP is and show it on the adoption list.
