q-video sends video asset for download instead of playing it

We're using q-video to play video assets (stored under public directory), and instead of rendering a document inside the iframe, the video is downloaded to the browser. I have a sample app but cannot reproduce the problem with it. I did notice the content type of the sample that works is video/mp4 while our content type is application/mp4. We are doing this under https if that makes any difference.
