I made this plugin: https://github.com/kixelated/tauri-plugin-web-transport It's not been well tested and there's no datagram support yet. Data is base64 encoded and posted as JSON so there will be some performance cost. |

Hi Tauri Team,
I know you’ve got a pretty full backlog, so I totally understand that this may not be a priority right now. That said, I wanted to share a suggestion in case it aligns with future plans.
Tauri currently has excellent WebSocket support, which makes it an ideal option for lightweight desktop clients that interact with remote servers—particularly in data streaming use cases. With Webtransport offering potential improvements in performance, bidirectional communication, and security over WebSockets, I believe it could be a valuable addition as it matures.
I came across the WTransport library, built in Rust, that supports Webtransport and Protobuf. As Webtransport continues to mature, this could add even more value to Tauri, especially for more advanced use cases.
Thought I’d flag it for future consideration.
Cheers,
Pete
