SSL resource URLs

There doesn't seem to be a way to have viddler-ruby return HTTPS URLs when calling viddler.videos.getDetails for instance. Should I consider this gem abandoned and fork it? Or is this something you'll consider.

Some kind of flag like Facebook's return_ssl_resources would be nice.

The back-end API doesn't currently support a parameter to return HTTPS resources. I wouldn't really want to add something to this library that globally replaces http:// with https:// in responses, because I think that there are some URLs in API responses that won't work over HTTPS.

I think the best thing to do for now would be to run any URL string you need to output, through a helper that does the convert on a case by case basis.

Ideally in the long term I would like all Viddler resources to be https by default.

@mattfawcett That's what I originally did inside of the app that uses viddler-ruby but it felt sticky to do something like that when your own Knowledge Base state:

Yes, Viddler does support SSL for Business accounts and above. Our embed codes should switch for you automatically, but if you’re having trouble, Add “https:” for each URL (Before the “//”)

If anything, at least video.getDetails should have an SSL option.

Hi, that link refers to embed codes for which SSL is supported but unfortunately at the moment not everything is available with SSL (there are urls in the viddler.videos.getDetails that if you changed http to https they would not work - so globally replacing in this gem would not work).

What resources are you trying to use from the response? If you call viddler.videos.getEmbedCode the iframe embed code you will get in return looks something like below, so the browser will use either http or https depending on what the parent page is using.

For changes in how the back-end API works, you will be best to open a support ticket at https://support.viddler.com/ - I am of the opinion that it would be best to just use ssl for everything by default.
