How do you build xmake from source?

How does someone build xmake from xmake source code?

I tried running ./configure from the root of the project but that failed with:

./configure: line 903: ~/my/dvo/lua-repos/xmake/core/src/tbox/tbox/src/xmake.sh: No such file or directory

I checked the configure file but shellcheck report a lot of issues in that file.

you need clone all submodules. https://xmake.io/guide/quick-start.html#source-compilation-and-installation

git submodule update --init

It's impossible to add everything in a readme file; you should refer to the documentation.

The real answer was to get the git submodule and to read the official docs.
