hmmm...anyone have any idea why travis isn't running this? or @bombela are you able to trigger manually?

I am not interested to fiddle with this right now. I think Travis CI doesn't really offer free usage for open source anymore. Somebody has a PR in progress proposing to use github actions. In any case you can always test everything locally. I am pretty sure you can find Docker images for every possible version of Python nowadays.
