Summary

Enable gzip and https:// OTLP export. Both failed at startup.

Related Issue

Closes #3899

Changes

  • Enable gzip-tonic, tls-aws-lc, tls-roots on opentelemetry-otlp.
  • Trust platform roots for https:// endpoints (tonic trusts none by default).
  • TLS and gzip option on the shared test collector, plus an end-to-end test.
  • Docs: https:// and OTEL_EXPORTER_OTLP_COMPRESSION=gzip.

Testing

  • Checks appropriate to the affected code and behavior pass
  • Unit tests added/updated (if applicable)
  • E2E tests added/updated (if applicable)

cargo fmt, cargo clippy and cargo test for openshell-otel, openshell-otel-test-support, and the Docker driver OTLP test. mise run docs passes. The new test fails with UnknownIssuer without the roots change.

Checklist

  • Follows Conventional Commits
  • Commits are signed off (DCO)
  • Architecture docs updated (if applicable)
