I also noticed that the sphinx docs don't render the copyright notice with Matt's middle initial. Since the initial is included in the LICENSE file, let's get contents matching.
Still ignoring C++ and R codes.

@mpratola The changes in this PR arose from my execution of the prerelease actions. Ideally, the merge commit on
maingenerated by this PR will become our "release commit," which we will use for the release actions. Therefore, if you have any changes to make they can be made on this PR as well.For instance, the landing page of the sphinx docs don't include information such as license, support, or citations, which are included in the main README and in the Python package's README. Feel free to add any such information now.
