The workspace-mirror era ended with the source-of-truth cutover: PRs merge here normally, and a merged change ships when the next release is tagged and the consuming application bumps its pin. The Workspace-Commit trailers in older history are noted as that era's bookkeeping.

The "published from a private workspace" section predates the source-of-truth cutover (2026-08-27). PRs now merge here normally; a merged change reaches the public record via the next tagged release, which the consuming application pins. This updates CONTRIBUTING.md and the README's contributing paragraph accordingly, and notes what the
Workspace-Commit:trailers in older history were.
