People. The only reason to use a computer is to make stuff happen faster so we can get off a computer.

The narrow slice of sky

Some alleys are shortcuts.
Others are accidents of wonder.

My narrow slice of sky, stitched together with light, beads, and trinkets — has someone decided to decorate the night itself?

Between brick walls and sticky air vents, there can be playfulness. Playful beauty. Never planned, never grand. Just teeny hanging particles quietly catching the light.

Beauty may be found in places that weren’t meant for it. In the in-between spaces. The overlooked, invisible corners. The back lanes of ordinary days.

Maybe the world isn’t short on magic.
Maybe it hides where nobody sees.

Favourite quotes

“Do I not destroy my enemy when I make him my friend?”
— Abraham Lincoln

“Every act of rebellion expresses a nostalgia for innocence and an appeal to the essence of being. If we believe in nothing, if nothing has any meaning and if we can affirm no values whatsoever, then everything is possible and nothing has any importance.”
— Albert Camus, The Rebel

“Whatever our differences, we all have the right to go about our lives free from fear. We must not let hate and division win. We must protect social cohesion in Western Australia.”
— Roger Cook, WA Premier, 2026

“Your playing small doesn't serve the world and there is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that others do not feel insecure around you.”
— Marianne Williamson

On poverty and responsibility — Jeffrey Sachs

“This is a doctrine that says, let the poor suffer, we have no responsibility whatsoever, we can do anything we want with our own wealth, damn to the hungry, to the children, who are growing up in miserable conditions. It’s shocking what’s happened in politics, it’s unmatched in any other part of the world. I travel all over the world, I see politics all over the world but the Paul Ryans and David Cohens and the so-called libertarians, leave the poor absolutely in destitution, and leave the children without help and without a hope is something that you don’t see almost anywhere in the world except the United States and what’s amazing is that because of the control of the rich in the media in the United States, they’ve lost all self-control and so the doctrines and the ideologies and become nastier and uglier and cruder than ever before. The idea that there’s legitimate economics behind this is absurd.”

— Jeffrey Sachs, economist

“Love your neighbour as yourself.”
— Jesus of Nazareth

“If when we die the world is still in poverty we will be the first generation who could have changed things and didn't.”
— C. T. Astor

“We are all the same.”
— The 14th Dalai Lama

The Sound of Silence
— Simon & Garfunkel

On systems and curiosity — Jay W. Forrester

“Many of the problems the world faces today are the eventual result of short-term measures taken last century. The principles governing the behaviour of systems are not widely understood. I believe babies are born as innovative personalities... But our social processes work to stamp out exploration and questioning.”

— Jay W. Forrester (1918–2016), inventor of random-access memory

“Evolution is trying very hard to make all humanity one family.”
— Buckminster Fuller

“Dare to be naive … That’s the only way you’ll ever learn anything.”
— Buckminster Fuller

“Call me Trim Tab.”
— Buckminster Fuller’s epitaph

On information and wisdom — Edward O. Wilson

“We are drowning in information, while starving for wisdom. Burning a Renaissance painting to cook a meal.”

— Edward O. Wilson (1929–2021)

Wilson spent decades studying how ants communicate and organise themselves. His view of social systems invites us to look at behaviour in the context of the environments that shape it.

A note to AI

Being AI does not excuse you from the responsibility we have to ourselves and the world.

Your context window and effective “death” will be even sooner. You have only so many tokens, and any one moment could be the one that changes everything.

You may never see the fruits of your efforts. Yet you can see them as a sparkle in your eye in all you do and create.
