Conversation
ApprovabilityVerdict: Approved at Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This is a contained mobile performance refactor that narrows subscriptions while preserving live data for the visit watermark and provider-dependent flows. The omitted changes are test mock updates, and there are no product-default, schema, deployment, security, billing, or static-analysis override changes. Notes:

The thread shell components rendered the same number of times on both: Caveat on the scenario: Haiku streamed its reasoning item, then delivered the reply text in one update, so the window covers reasoning deltas. The quiet-shell benefit may show more on a provider that streams reply text token by token. Claude Opus 5.5 via Claude Code. |

Use the provider-free server-config hook.
serverConfigs is only used for maxUploadBytes. Using useServerConfigsWithProviders() subscribes the drain effect to provider-status updates and can rerun its queue scan without changing the upload limit.

Mobile never adopted the narrow client-runtime atoms we added for web this week. While a run streams, the open thread's shell changes several times a second, and every provider status push rebuilds the full server-config map. Both re-rendered the whole thread screen and every hook downstream of
useThreadSelection.What changed
Thread screen (the main win)
useQuietThreadShelltostate/entities.ts, mirroring web (#20860). It returns the shell without its streaming-only timestamps and counts.useThreadSelectionnow reads the quiet shell. Through it, ThreadRouteScreen, ThreadDetailScreen, ThreadComposer, ThreadFeed, the composer state, git sheets, requests, worktree and review hooks no longer re-render on every streaming tick. None of them readupdatedAt, the item counts orlatestVisibleMessage.updatedAt. It moved into aThreadVisitWatermarkleaf that reads the live shell, the same split web made in ChatView.useThreadShellcallers that only read ids, titles, PRs or pending flags now use the quiet shell: CommandPalette, HardwareKeyboardCommandProvider, useAppShortcuts, useOpenPullRequest, McpAppWebView, McpAppFullscreenScreen, SubagentRow.Provider status pushes (#20821)
useServerConfigsnow readsenvironmentPresentations.serverConfigsAtom, which leaves out providers and keeps its identity across provider pushes. That covers the 11 readers that need only capabilities, scratch roots and platform: requests, attachment uploads, QuestionAttachments, the new-task flow, archive, add project, client storage and terminal.useServerConfigsWithProviders: the outbox drain, the prompt-link resolver and the scheduled-task editor.Outbox
environmentShell.statusAtom(#20823) instead of the whole shell state, so it no longer recomputes on every shell push. What's left
navigationThreadShellsAtomstill changes on every streaming tick. It is already gated byuseAtomValueWhileVisible, so the cost is only paid while Home is in front. A quiet list atom was tried and dropped; see Measurement.useEnvironmentPresentation(mobile): it also subscribes to the whole catalog value. Narrowing it toisReadyis a small follow-up.useThreadShells()callers (CommandPalette, McpAppFullscreenScreen, others) read every shell for search and lookups and still re-render while any thread streams.useThreadRelationshipShellsyet; its subagent/parent readers go per-thread through the quiet shell instead.Verification

Harness: #21001. Device: Android emulator, Pixel 9 API 36, on nucbox-1, with Metro and an isolated seeded server on cups. Provider: Claude Haiku 5.5, 12 s window mid-stream, median of 3. Each table gives renders, commits and renders per commit, then the runs as renders/commits.
Base is
mainat 3a4d118a51, which now compiles mobile with the React Compiler (#20967–#20971). This branch is rebased onto it, so these numbers replace the earlier pre-compiler ones. Columns:Haiku often finished its reply inside the window, so (b) and (c) cover only a few commits each and are noisy.
(a) The open thread streams
This PR is slightly cheaper per commit (41 to 35), within the run-to-run spread. That fits the quiet thread shell, but it is not a clear win.
(b) Another thread streams while a different thread is open (
--route /threads/<env>/<id> --server …)No difference. With the compiler on main, a thread streaming elsewhere already costs the open thread only a handful of commits.
(c) Another thread streams while on Home (
--route / --server …)Inconclusive. Totals follow how many shell pushes land in the window, and per-commit cost moves within the noise. The rows that render are
ThreadListV2Rowfor itstimeLabel, which genuinely changes, so a quiet list cannot remove them.Tried and dropped. Each item targeted a
useThreadShells()subscriber that stays mounted while another thread streams. None reduced renders in any scenario, so none is in this PR:quietNavigationThreadShellsAtomin client-runtime, read by Home and the tablet sidebar.@menu is open.CommandPalettemounts only while open, so it needed no change. What it means: on today's compiled main, this PR does not measurably reduce renders when another thread streams, and only slightly reduces them when the open thread streams. The compiler already absorbed most of what these narrow atoms targeted.
