🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Include both setup calls in the cleanup block.
If either setup() call rejects, execution never reaches the try block. The test leaves console.error and environment variables changed. If the second call rejects, the first instance also remains active. Start try before setup and clean up each instance that was created.

OpenCode 2 runs one plugin instance per location but `event.subscribe()` is server-wide, so every instance saw every session's events and each assistant reply was hydrated and captured once per open directory: with TUIs in demo and demo2, a turn in demo2 logged "Honcho session initialized" twice (rootDir demo and demo2) and "Honcho captured assistant message" twice for one messageId, and the reply landed in both per-directory Honcho sessions. Under the background service the extra instance rooted at the service's default location wrote a stray session. Act only on sessions of this instance's location. Session events carry the location they were published from in their envelope; the ones that do not (session.execution.*) are resolved from what earlier events said, or once through session.get, and remembered until session.deleted. A session that reaches this instance's location-scoped prompt hook is its own as well. Directories are compared after resolving symlinks and trailing separators. The OPENCODE_HONCHO_TRACE_EVENTS line now says which instance saw the event and whether it acted. Test: two instances with different locations over one shared event stream, covering labelled events, unlabelled turn boundaries resolved via session.get, ownership via the prompt hook, and deletion. …nonicalization Every session event the plugin acts on carries the location it was published from, and OpenCode identifies a location by that directory string, so compare it as reported. Events without a location (session.execution.*) follow the directory recorded for their session; an unknown session is ignored, which is safe because pending assistant text only exists after a located event. Shrink the scoping test to match. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Create the plugin instances inside the try block so console.error and the environment are restored, and any instance already started is cleaned up, if a later setup() call fails. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The cleanup test emits an event with no location for an unknown session, which the location gate now drops. Let emit take a location and pass the instance's own directory. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

does this mean that separate sessions in the same directory will also run into the same issue? i guess it doesn't matter because they will usually be reading from the same session if they are in the same directory….

Thankfully not an issue. in order for that to come up there would need to be two plugin instances reading the same event stream, and OpenCode creates one instance per directory. Sessions in the same directory all go through that one instance, so each event is handled once.
Symptom
OpenCode 2 instantiates the plugin once per location (project directory) on one server. In
src/v2/runtime.tsevery instance calledctx.event.subscribe()andhandleEventacted on any event with asessionID, whatever location the session belonged to. With OpenCode v2.0.19 and plugin 0.2.0, one foreground server and TUIs open in~/demoand~/demo2, a single turn in~/demo2produced this in the server's stderr:The same session was hydrated twice (once per instance, with each instance's own
rootDir) and the reply was captured twice. In Honcho the reply landed in both per-directory sessions while the user prompt, captured by the location-scopedsession.hook("prompt"), landed only indemo2:Under the normal background service (
opencode service) the instance rooted at the service's default location (~) did the same, writing replies into a strayper-directory-<ws>-dev-opencodesession.Root cause
Hooks (
session.hook,tool.hook) are location-scoped;event.subscribe()is server-wide. The event loop never asked whether a session belonged to the instance'sctx.location.Fix
Each instance now acts only on sessions in its own location, decided per event in
ownsSession:location: { directory }on the events it publishes from a location. Checked against the raw/api/eventstream on v2.0.19: everysession.*event the plugin handles (session.created,session.step.*,session.text.*,session.deleted, ...) carries it. The directory is recorded per session and compared withctx.location.directoryas reported, with no path normalization: it is the identity OpenCode instantiates a location on (project.canonicalis tracked separately), and on v2.0.19 the two strings are identical.session.execution.{succeeded,failed,interrupted}(andusage.updated/viewed) carry no location, so they follow the directory recorded for their session. An unknown session is ignored, which is safe because pending assistant text only exists after a locatedsession.text.ended.prompthook is recorded as its own.session.deletedevicts the record in every instance. TheOPENCODE_HONCHO_TRACE_EVENTSdebug line now includes the event'slocation, the instance'sdirectory, andowned. Why not filter by
project.id? Worktrees of one project are separate locations with separate plugin instances. Why not rely only on the hooks? Hydration onsession.createdand assistant capture happen independently of any hook, so the event loop needs its own answer.SDK check: neither
@opencode/plugin(2.0.16 pinned, 2.0.19 latest) nor the client'sSubscribeOptions(signal,onActivity) offers a location filter onevent.subscribe(), so the envelopelocationis the native signal. No change to the core, the 1.x path, or the standalone-run path. No version bump.
Test
tests/v2-wire.test.jsgains one test: twosetup()instances on different directories share one event stream, and only the owning instance handles a located event, an unlabelled turn-boundary event follows its session, and an unknown session is ignored. Making the gate always return true fails it.bun run checkandbun test ./testspass (30 tests, 10 files).Sandbox verification (OpenCode v2.0.19, local Docker sandbox)
