Getting started

Please install Github Desktop . Clone the Route From Github NewForestRoute page click on to download.
It is not recommended to download via the "zip" or on Github. This is because the route and timetable are under constant revision and fixes. Only Github desktop gives the latest version. However, "Latest release 3.03" is a stable stage that could be updated later
Keep Nf route separate from existing OR or MSTS content because it uses a custom t section and global files.
Point OR to the route location from OR Menu/options/ installation profiles
Back in the OR menu choose timetables and the latest from the list of timetables ( ie the highest alpha numeric on offer) Look for the "PLAYER" timetable. (some of the STATIC timetables contain only wagons and are not driveable
Choose from the big list of trains. To just watch trains select an observer - one with obs in the title. Don`t run any of the following "ECS, EGS,EVS" these are empty and OR will complain about the lack of loco.
Loading times can be long, up to 30 min. This is because OR must run all the timetable up to the player start time. ( the prerun phase). You could do some chores, look at the route documentation and readmes (please do!) Even reading emails etc
When loaded press F2 to save and you can return without the long prerun
Initially, it may seem hard to know what to do. Many trains have guidance on the F1 "briefing tab". Otherwise drive towards any siding exit or green signal. Night trains can be set to run in daylight by using the time offeset in the CTRL 9 timetable viewer

A medium spec computer, 64 bit W7 W10 with 8Gb memory Run with open Rails Unstable version or the ORNYMG branch of Open Rails
