Tutorial Agenda

Introduction to Quantum Networks (10 min)

  • Quantum communication basics
  • Quantum communication use cases, benefits, state-of-the-art, and challenges

Introduction to SeQUeNCe (20 min)

  • What is SeQUeNCe
  • Motivation
  • Basic architecture
  • How SeQUeNCe distinguishes itself from others

Design, Interface, Capabilities, and Limitations (25 min)

  • Modular design and customizability
  • API and GUI
  • Simulation of quantum network devices and protocols
  • Limitations of SeQUeNCe and discrete-event simulation

Live Demo of SeQUeNCe (25 min)

  • Setup and configuration
  • Simulation of a simple network and traffic
  • Metrics
  • Cross-validation work

Exercise 1: Setup and Configuration (10 min)

  • Attendees will download and set up SeQUeNCe
  • Attendees will become familiar with the SeQUeNCe GUI

End of First 90 Minutes: Break

Exercise 2: Simulation (25 min)

  • Attendees will run a simple quantum communication simulation involving entanglement generation and teleportation among a few nodes.

Exercise 3: Three Ways to Customize SeQUeNCe (25 min)

  • Attendees will customize the simulation by importing classes from SeQUeNCe into their own repository.
  • Attendees will customize the simulation by dynamically loading different entanglement-generation classes.

Advanced Concepts and New Features (30 min)

  • Discuss recent publications using SeQUeNCe. Topics include:
    • Distributed quantum computing and sensing
    • Adaptive continuous protocol simulation
    • The metrics module
    • Heterogeneous quantum networks
    • The stabilizer formalism quantum manager
