Agenda and Announcements

Open Discussion

Ken provided overview of data representation included with new build process underdevelopment. See wcag.json is a mess #4393. Legacy XLST code is used to generate Quick Ref and Understanding documents, but it was brittle, redundant, and cryptic. Ken's goal is to make simple things easy and hard things possible.

Ken has verified Understand and Techniques build correctly from repo. WGAG.json is next in the queue to be validated and then used to build the QuickRef. Only current material will be included, and some orphaned (and abandoned) pages removed from the repo. We do have a few PRs in process that might also need to be refreshed to avoid build errors, but Ken has a handle on those.

For Discussion

None! No concerns flagged from AG on recent items. The most recent WCAG 2 proposed changes are ready to be moved to Fully Reviews or Errata for Quarterly Refresh.

Drafted

Discussed web → Web, "web site" → "website" #4490 as being purely editorial. It was note that whitespace filter tool feature masked the changes a reviewer would be interested in checking, while turning off the whitespace filter feature made the changes seem more substantive than they are. Moved to Ready for Review.

Minimum bounding box and line wrapping - unclear definition #3376 initially response only, but we agree there should be more examples. That should be a separated PR. The choices offered are not correct because with option b, the -- the "of 3" should be part of a link. Per a close reading of definition for target size -- makes the example two separate targets. We do want target-size to be about contiguous areas, but there are can be negative effects when this is applied to focus-appearance. Increased the required target size is a natural consequence when link text is wrapped on a line break. We are going to want to add example to Understanding, but we need a volunteer to start drafting. Mike elaborated on the response during and shortly after the call. Stays in Drafted.

Discussed Technique ARIA14: Replacing “invisible label” with “accessible name” #4482 and Dan's concern that the explanation needs to be clearer. For example, a simple <div> with a role (etc.) can't simple be given a <label> because of other ARIA caveats. TF agrees we need more examples, but that's not blocking this PR. Patrick will rework to address concerns raised by Dan. There was also an interesting sidebar about x being different than × and that both have sufficient ambiguity that they are not interchangeable and that × is should not be treated as a being text character. Issues Stays in Drafted.

Briefly discussed Update README.md #4465 which is a small edit to remove 2016 written as being the present tense. Discussed on Monday call, this technical minutia and not something we need to put before AG.

Discussed Add security mention to Timing Adjustable and tweak Re-Authentication #4382. The question has been put to AGWG in the past, and TF at present, and we do not agree that server time outs meet the definition for essential. Patrick will revisit. Stays in drafted.

Discussed Tweak C39 and add new matching SCR40 #4404 which has new technique (based on scripting) that reuses revised language from C39 which we approved previously. Patrick has since made some additional minor edits, some in response to feedback provided by Ken. Leaving in Drafted for one more week to give TF members additional opportunity to review.

Briefly discussed Update F81 #1033 which was discussed recently. Requested change has been made, and there are no additional comments. Moved to Ready for Approval.
